Obituary for Tony Albano

Tony passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 23, 2020. Beloved husband to Mena Albano (nee Filomena Scandale) for 45 years. Adored father of Salvatore Albano and wife Melina (nee Fregapane), Carmine Albano and wife Mirela (nee Backo). Cherished Nonno to Anthony, Maya, Joseph, Salvo, Sophia and Alessia. Dear son of the late Salvatore and Rosarina Albano and son in law to the late Carmine Scandale and survived mother in law, Caterina Scandale. Survived by his brother Peppino and Maria Rosa Albano, Luigino and Maria Albano, Mario and Costanza Albano, Sistino and Rosetta Albano and predeceased by brother Vicenzo Albano and survived by wife Iolanda. Brother in law to Joe and Lori Scandale, Dominic and Mimma Scandale and Gina Scandale. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who dubbed Zio Tony as “Iconic”. Beloved nephew of Raffaele and Angela Scandale.

Tony was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Calabria, Italy in 1949 and was a proud Italian and Canadian. He loved nature and was a well-known mushroom hunter as he often talked about La Sila and the beauty of Ontario’s wooded parks.

He retired from the City of Windsor where he finished his career as the caretaker of our beautiful Ojibway Park in LaSalle. Tony was very gifted as a talented electrician who wired many homes in Windsor/Essex, a true handyman. Known for his exceptional bocce skills as a “Puntista”. He was a proud member of the Giovanni Caboto Bocciofila and winner of many tournaments across South Western Ontario. Tonino and Mena adored being around their Coffee group of friends, a group of kindhearted individuals. Friday nights were filled with pizza, wine and bocce at the Caboto Club where he connected with his “Paesans”. He also cherished visiting his family while enjoying an espresso and a Vecchia Romagna while boasting about his grandkids. On the weekends you would catch Tony with his sweetheart, Mena in their cozy cottage at Wildwood By the Lake near Rondeau Park. Many were the days where he won the horseshoe and holy board tournaments with his Wildwood friends. We can’t say enough about Tonino’s big heart, Grey/Blue eyes and brimming smile as it lit up a room. Rest in Peace Papa, ti amiamo con tutto il cuore!

Thank you to Dr. Anees, Dr. Chaudhry, Angela Italiano and the wonderful staff of Met Hospital ICU.
