Obituary for Walter Ronald "Ron" Drynan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father on September 7, 2023 at the age of 91. Loving father of Teresa Crease, Guelph ON (Gary); Lauri Balson, Victoria, BC; Jacqui Drynan, Chatham ON; Dani Hennin, Tecumseh ON (Brian); Mari Wright, LaSalle ON (Ori Steinberg), and Ron Drynan Jr., Sarasota FL (Lisa). Proud grandpa of Ashley Balson, Victoria BC; Lindsay Feltmate, Oakville ON (TC); Aaron Balson, Vancouver BC (Jennifer Chen); Cameron Hennin, Tecumseh ON (Emily Levesque); Charlotte Hazzard, Calgary AB (Jake); Terin Wright, Windsor ON (Mike); and Trevan Wright, New Techumseth ON (Stephanie Juffs). Proud great grandpa of Carey and Elodie Feltmate, and Mia Hazzard. Loving brother of Faye Hord, Uxbridge ON (Hugh). Predeceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Jane Drynan (nee Rigney), his parents Walter and Elaine (nee Robinson) Drynan, and his siblings, Tom Drynan (Marju), Renee Fenske (Eric), Joy Scott and Bill Drynan (Kathy).

Ron was a Civil Engineer. He earned a BASc from the University of Toronto in 1954, an MS in Sanitary Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956, and a PhD in Sanitary Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961. Ron started his professional career as a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 1961. From 1973 to 1987 he was a Senior Engineer for the International Joint Commission, Great Lakes Region. He also worked for the City of Windsor Lou Romano Water Reclamation Plant and the Little River Pollution Control Plant. He was a Flying Officer in the RCAF Reserve.

Ron enjoyed sailing, golfing, curling and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Essex Golf and Country Club in LaSalle ON for many years, and he cofounded the Bogey Golf Tour.

A special thanks to all the medical professionals involved in Ron’s care, especially the nurses and PSWs at the Richmond Terrace Long Term Care Home in Amherstburg ON, and to his friend Wayne and PSW Carinne in LaSalle ON.

As per Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will follow at a later date.
