MATASSA, Wendy Lynn (nee Derkach)
December 22, 1958 – October 3, 2023
Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 3, 2023. Beloved wife and best buddy of Frank. Loving mother of Justin (Jennifer) and Jessica (Cameron Sinclair). Dear grandma to Jackson and Hope. Loving daughter to Dora and late Cecil Derkach. Sister to Lori (Tom Srebrnjak), and Arley (Angela). Daughter-in-law to Jacqueline and late Bruno Matassa. Sister-in-law to Madeleine (John) George and Mark Matassa. Dear aunt of Ian, Brandon, Cooper and Marlise.
Wendy enjoyed travelling with her husband and spending time at the cottage with her family. She loved to entertain and always created a warm space for family to gather.
Wendy was a local self-taught artist. Her original works depicted a variety of subjects and scenes. Many paintings were inspired by her adventures with her husband, both enjoying nature, architecture and history. What Wendy was most known for was capturing themes familiar to her, her home of Windsor-Essex County, and the industries and landscapes familiar to Southern Ontario.
She was a member of Windsor’s Plein Air Art Group. She loved the social aspect of the group, the fun of exploring new places and local landscapes while keeping within the moment and capturing it.
Wendy will be missed by many extended family members and friends.
Memorial Visitation on Friday, October, 6, 2023 at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor, 519-969-5841 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Visitation continues on Saturday from 12 pm until time of Memorial Service at 1 pm. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
