Obituary for Yvette Rondeau

Our beautiful mother passed away comfortably of natural causes with her loving children by her side on January 28, 2021 at the age of 88. She was the loving and cherished wife of Roland (Rolly), with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2009. She was the beloved mother to Jerome Rondeau, Diane Elliott, Marc Rondeau and Gisele Shaw; precious grandmaman to Mitchell and Kendall Elliott, Simone and Sydney Shaw and Christian Rondeau; and wonderful mother-in-law to Scott Elliott, Craig Shaw and Guadalupe Rivera. She was a cherished sister to Roland Dion, Gisele Sparling, and the late Marcel Dion and Gerald Dion and dear sister-in-law to the late Beatrice Dion, Robert Sparling and Cecile Dion as well as doting Ma Tante to many nieces and nephews.

Married in Manitoba, mom and dad first moved to Sudbury, Ontario before finally settling in Windsor, Ontario when our dad landed a job at Chrysler. They bought their first and only home in South Windsor where they spent 40+ years building a loving family home for their four children. Mom was a dedicated employee of Walmart on Dougall Road for 25+ years, including a number of years at Woolco. There are few people in Windsor who don’t know “Yvette from Walmart”. If you went out with mom, rarely did 15 minutes go by before she bumped into someone she knew! Mom was a talented gardener, and together with our dad, built and tended to an amazing vegetable garden and in later years, a flower garden. She loved fashion and was always well dressed for any event! She was also a great cook and baker. Her kids can all agree that her mincemeat pies, tourtiere and Christmas stuffing are legendary! A devout Catholic, mom never missed Sunday service at Christ the King Church and later Corpus Christ Church and gave back by taking part in many church functions and activities. Every night you would find her ending her day in prayer. More than anything she loved her family and friends and spending time with them whether that was going to the movies, having dinner or just enjoying a nice chat and some laughs over a cup of tea.

As there will be no visitation or service for the public due to COVID-19, we invite family and friends to share a cherished memory or leave a message here on the Families First site as an online condolence.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing staff at Huron Lodge for the way they loved and cared for our mother for the past three years and especially during the last days prior to her passing. The kindness and compassion they bestowed on us and our mom will never be forgotten.

If you so desire, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Windsor-Essex County would be appreciated by the family.
