95 years, born June 3, 1913, Charlton, England. Entered into Eternal Life on September 17, 2008 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital, late of Central Park Lodge. It is with great sadness in his passing, yet joy in his memory that Bert's family announces he is reunited with his beloved wife Helen (nee Peltier, 1996). Cherished father of Mavis & husband John Julian, Brian Smith & wife Wendy (Kawala) and Kevin Smith & wife Gina (Gray). Proud grandfather of Mitsi Kyle & husband Paul LaBelle, Jeff Smith & Siobhan Gaizutis, Jamie, Gillian and Eric Smith. Loving "old grandpa" of Larissa and Adrian LaBelle. Dear brother of Sidney Smith and Harold Kane. Brother-in-law of Bud & Florence Peltier, Bill & Pat Peltier and Mary Anne Cormier. Bert served in the RCAF in WWII and returned to civilian life to open Bert Smith's Market Hardware on Pitt St. in downtown Windsor. He retired at 65 years after 50 plus years in the hardware business. Bert was a devout Catholic Parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Ushers Club and formerly on the Board of Directors Catholic Children's Aid Society. Past Grand Knight of the K of C, Council 1453 and a 4th Degree member of the Dean Wagner Assembly #0862. Longtime member of the Windsor Goodfellows and was Goodfellow of the Year, 1982. If you so desire, donations to the Windsor Goodfellows would be appreciated by the family. Visitation will be held Friday 3-5 & 7-9 pm with parish prayers at 3:30 pm at Families First Funeral Home & Tribute Centre (519-969-5841) 3260 Dougall Ave. 4th Degree Dean Wagner Assembly #0862 prayers Friday 7:30 pm. Friends are invited to meet on Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for further visiting from 9 am followed by mass at 10 am. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
