86 years, peacefully on August 13, 2011 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Lily for 66 years. Loving father of Arthur Edward (Ted) and wife Karen of Westmount, Quebec and the late Peter. Loved grandfather of Sarah, Elisa, and Christopher. Dear brother of Ted Hitchen and wife Brenda and the late Jack Hitchen and surviving wife Ethel. Loved uncle of many nieces and nephews in Canada, England and Europe.

Art joined the British Army in 1941 as a teenager and was part of the 2nd British Special Air Services until 1945. He served in N. Africa, Italy, Sicily, Yugoslavia and Southern France. Art was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years in several cities, currently being with Branch 594. He was a lifetime Mason and Past Master with several Lodges, currently with Trinity Lodge 521. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and a 33rd Degree Mason, as well as District Deputy Grand Master for a one year term. He was also with the Mocha Shriners in Windsor for a great many years and helped organize their annual children's picnic for the mentally challenged. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Huron Lodge-Sycamore for the outstanding and loving care given to Art, they shared their loved selflessly. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors on 2 North at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital for their kindness and compassion in Art's final hours. If you so desire, donations to the Mocha Shriners or charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family. Visiting Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 pm with a R.C. Legion Service 4 pm and a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm. Funeral service to celebrate Art's life will be Wednesday at 10 am at Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor 519-969-5841.
