The world lost a loving, laughing and caring woman Monday night, when Dorothy Anne Montrose breathed her final breath. Born May 23, 1922, Dorothy and her twin sister Kathleen grew up happily in Walkerville, often sharing dinner with federal cabinet ministers and Supreme Court Justices – friends of her father, Gordon Fraser, a prominent Windsor lawyer, and her mom, Annie Laurel Fraser. After high school, Dorothy joined the army, hoping to see the world, but was stationed in Kitchener. At war's end, Sgt. Major Fraser met Lieut. Wilson (Monty) Montrose, and they wed July 26, 1947. Dorothy and Monty (2000) had three children: Ian Fraser, Ann Laurel (James Smith), and Margaret Ann. Dorothy busied her days with "mom stuff", cooking, baking (she was renowned for her English muffins), attending sporting events, Reach for the Top games and everything else in between. She also found time for golf (you'd often hear a single-syllable epithet after an errant shot), curling, bridge, Rummoli, reading, gardening, and keeping watch (literally and figuratively) over her grandchildren Dr. Reagan Gale and Graeme Montrose. Dorothy's and Monty's love for them was endless and unconditional. She also loved her grandchildren Amanda, Heather and Cameron. Dorothy found comfort in the back pew of Paulin Memorial Presbyterian Church, where for years she'd share time with her church friends and enjoy Rev. Wendy Patterson's sermons. Thanks Wendy. In her mid-eighties, Mom also volunteered to drive "old people" to appointments, and was heartsick when she gave up her licence. Her life was full of travelling adventures, first with Monty and then Laurel and Reagan. Dorothy sheltered and loved many dogs and is survived by her four-legged pal George. Mom loved her dog with all her heart. Dorothy wanted no fuss after her death. Cremation was held. Arrangements entrusted to Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841.
