Born October 3, 1917 outside Buzou, Romania. Passed away peacefully on August 25, 2011 after a long and full life. George was the beloved husband of sixty years to Irene (Mathis), loving father to Erwin and wife Adele of Windsor, and Sylvia Novac of Toronto. Proud and affectionate grandfather (Opa) to Natasha and Connor. The fourth of five children, he is survived by his sister Nicolina (Coca) Vasile, and his niece Lia Tufescu, her husband Mircea and their son Tudor. Predeceased by his parents Manea and Iona, brothers Stefan and Ionel, and sister Mariora. George and Irene were married in Paris, France and immigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Windsor to be close to Irene's aunt and American cousins, the Mato and Stanko families. He will be missed by all, including his extended family in Niagara – Marie, Hugh, Sherri, Colin Glass and their children. A tool and die maker by trade, George worked at Romeo Machine before spending twenty-five years at Chrysler Canada. After his retirement he volunteered his time and skills at The Child's Place, RC Children's Aid Society, Windsor Western Hospital, CNIB, and Meals on Wheels. George was a voracious reader and balanced his time spending countless hours with his grandchildren in his woodworking shop. He will be cherished in their memory as a compassionate man with a keen interest in politics, history, and whatever the kids wanted.
