Margaret Dupuis

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, at Malden Park Continuing Care Centre, on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 96 years of age. Beloved and cherished wife of Eugene, with whom she recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Loving and devoted mother of Jeannie and Bill Jacobs of Belleville, Barb and Bob Poulin of LaSalle, and John Dupuis and Carol Burden of Windsor. Much-adored Mimi of Michelle Dupuis of Essex, Jennifer Newman of LaSalle, Jeff Jacobs of Surrey, B.C., Danielle Dupuis of Burlington, Alison Jacobs of St. Catharines, Ann Dupuis of Burlington, and Rebecca Canzio of Waterdown. Held a twinkle in her eye for her acquired grandchildren through the years: Dan Drouillard, Peter, Greg (& Kanna), and Jeanette Newman, Colleen Jacobs, John Joyce, Dan Cowburn, Michael Canzio, and Bill Evon. Inspiring and ever-smiling great-grandmother of Jasper Drouillard, Jay Newman, Clara and Sawyer Jacobs, August and Vienne Cowburn, Noah and Joshua Canzio, Sam and Josie Joyce, and Sophie Desrosiers. Long-time friend of Gwen and the late Hector Boissonnault. Predeceased by her parents, Ephriam and Mary O'Brien and her siblings, Catherine, Michael, Amy, and Patrick. Sister-in-law to Phillip and Shirley Dupuis, Theresa Odette, and Lloyd and Helen Dupuis. Margaret was born and raised in Newcastle, New Brunswick. She courageously left the comfort and familiarity of her friends and family to serve overseas in World War II, where she met and married Eugene, who is also a WWII veteran. They eventually purchased a house in Anderdon Township and moved it to Victory Street in LaSalle, where they warmly welcomed family, friends, and neighbours for 62 years. For the past 2 years, they resided in their new LaSalle community of Oak Park Retirement Residence. Margaret was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #594. Margaret will be fondly remembered for her warm smile, her quick wit, her quiet strength, and her great love for her family. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada. Friends are invited to join Margaret's family for visitation and mass to celebrate her long life. Visitation Thursday from 3 – 5 pm, and 7 – 9 pm.
