Pagona Dimitriou

Peacefully on December 25, 2012 at 60 years of age. Cherished wife of Christos for 43 years. Loving mother of Nikolaos "The Greek", Lazaros and John Dimitriou. Dear sister of Dimitrios Sofikitis (Christina) of Windsor, George Sofikitis (Yiota) of Greece, Lefteris Sofikitis (Evangelia) of Greece, Ioannis Sofikitis of Greece, Eleni Vlachogiannis (late Andreas) of Greece, Stamatina Samiotis (late Adonis) of Greece, Giannoula Hatzis (Panagiotis) of Greece, Aggelikoula Vathis (Kostantinos) of Greece and the late Spyros Sofikitis (Soula). Loved Aunt of Mary Abumeeiz (Taher) of Windsor, Lazaros Sofikitis (Tiziana) of Tecumseh, Jim Hatzis (Toula) of Leamington. Great aunt of Salma and Mustafa Abumeeiz of Windsor, Panagiotis, Thanasi and Adonis Hatzis of Leamington, and Zoe Sofikitis of Tecumseh. Treasured and loved aunt, great –aunt and great-great- aunt of over 40 nieces and nephews in Greece. Loving godmother of Zahara, Georgia, Janet, Jerry, Peter, Billy and Katarina. Sadly missed by Julie and Anthony Pangburn and by her dear friends Soula Zigouris of Michigan, Margarita Andreopoulos of Windsor and Vaso Makidis of Windsor. Also missed by the Panagiotis Xenos family, her loving cousins of Michigan. Pagona was born in Kranidi Argolidas, Greece on March 24, 1952 to the late Lazaros and Maria Sofikitis. She immigrated to Canada on October 24, 1969 and married Christos in 1971. She worked for General Motors and was a proud member of CAW Local 195. She was a dedicated church go-er at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit and an active member of the Windsor Greek Community and "O Morias" Peleponnese Society of Windsor. She had a warm heart and always had an "open house" for everyone. She enjoyed treating everyone to her traditional baking and welcomed all with open arms, a genuine smile…and a pinch. If you so desire, donations to Transition to Betterness would be appreciated by the family. Visitation Friday 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Thrice Holy Hymn Service Friday at 8:30pm and Saturday at 10:30am at Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841. Procession to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church (65 Ellis Street East) for a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
