On Sunday, September 21, 2008 in London, ON at 81 years of age. Beloved husband of Marilynn "Marley" (nee Hill) of Toronto. Predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, the late Geraldine "Gerry" (1994), his parents, Charles and Alice Backman and his brothers Oscar, Harold, Alan and sister Ruth. Ralph is survived by three step children, Susan, Clarke and Godfrey, eight step grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews. Ralph was born in Sarnia on May 23, 1927. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Honours Business Administration. He joined Clarkson Gordon, the predecessor firm Ernst & Young in 1953 and retired in 1987. In recognition of his distinguished service to his profession he was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Ralph was a founding Director and Treasurer of Children's Rehabilitation Centre for Essex County, Director and Treasurer of the Teen Health Centre and was passionate in his involvement in many other boards, clubs and memberships throughout his lifetime in Windsor. In kindness, donations made to the John McGivney Children's Centre, Teen Health Centre or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. On Tuesday, October 7, 2008, friends are invited to join the family for visitation after 11:30am, followed by a Memorial Service at 1pm at Families First Funeral Home & Tribute Centre (519-969-5841) 3260 Dougall Ave.
