Raymond Stone

Died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday September 25, 2011 in Windsor at 95 years of age. Husband of Frances (nee Barden-1999). He leaves his children Stephanie of Kingston, Susan McKee of Calgary, Jeffrey (Trish), Vicki and Michael all of Windsor. Dear grandfather of Carolyn, Ryan,

Cameron and Kirsten and great grandfather of Jade and Ava Crawford.

Brother-in-law of John Barden, and uncle of Monica Barden and Jennifer Smith. Predeceased by his parents Alfred Theophilus and Nellie (nee Long), brother Graham (1984) and sister-in-law Greta (nee Kelly-2008). Born on August 30, 1916 in Birmingham, England, Dad emigrated to Canada with his family in 1924. He grew up on Lincoln Rd in Walkerville, where his parents were caretakers at Ottawa United Church (now Emmanuel United Church). He joined Chrysler's before WWII, working in the mail room. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in April 1942, training as navigator and attained the rank of Flying Officer. He was sent to RAF Tempsford, where he joined Squadron 161, part of the Special Operations Executive, dropping supplies to the French Resistance behind the German lines. After the war, he returned to Chrysler's and worked at the truck plant in the Ordering Dept., retiring in 1976. He married Frances Barden in 1948; they settled north of Amherstburg and lived there until her death in 1999.

Dad's interests were his family, his home and his large garden. In addition, he enjoyed reading, biking and astronomy. Dad even made and used his own telescope. He moved to Oak Park Terrace in 2005. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Oak Park for their kindness and caring. If you so desire, donations to the CNIB would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place.
