Renata Picco

Passed on to the next stage of her life on February 5, 2013 following a brief illness. Eldest daughter of the late Gilda (Massaglia) and Antonio Pizzolato. Dear sister of Niki Marlo, and sister-in-law of Isabella Alberghetti (Hamilton). Predeceased by the love of her life, Marciano Picco, who shared in all the pleasures and struggles that life offered them.

Renata was a cultured, generous, and loving woman who had to adapt to difficult situations throughout her life and did so without succumbing to adversity. She had a big heart -- always empathetic and trying to help out those in need.

Renata's five children were her greatest challenge and achievement: David (Diane), Roman (Sharron), Max (Velma), Joyce (the late Jean-Marie Lirola), and Fabian. They will miss her unfailing love, guidance and devotion. Her grandchildren (Anita, Myla, Adrien, and Kara) were her pride and joy, as were her out-of-town great-grandchildren (Lauren, Tabitha, and Brianna). There is nothing she would not have done for them.

She is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S. Until she was no longer able, she kept in close contact with cousins and friends in Milan, Verona, and her much beloved native city of Torino, Italy. Her godson, Larry Tolot (Michigan), and siblings Lisa, Laura and Lenora remember the great dinners and friendship that our families shared. Renata is in the prayers of her dear friends in Toronto, Halina and Kurt von dem Hagen, Jacek Kalita, and many members of the parish communities Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and St. Angela Merici Church, where she served as liturgical reader for many years. She will be missed by all and remembered in the many hearts that she touched.

As in the case of our dad, mom's end-of-life was a lengthy process that allowed her great faith and courage to shine in the face of agony. Her appreciation of life's simple pleasures, her benevolence, and her sense of humour endured to the end. She watches over us lovingly from Heaven now, blowing kisses to us, with her beloved Marciano once more by her side.

Our gratitude to the kind, caring staff of both Hotel Dieu and Metropolitan Hospitals. Our deeply heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Royal Marquis Retirement Residence and Extendicare Southwood Lakes where our mother lived her last two years. May all those who work with the elderly and have compassion for them be greatly blessed!

Mom and dad were always exceptionally generous to a number of different charities. If you so desire, you may choose to honour her by making a donation to the charity of your choice.
