Steve at Dainty Rice.. how we remember him

What I know about Steve..
He has worked at Dainty since 2002 as a machine operator... as some of
you may know, he was passionate about his work, sometimes his passion
may have been seen as loud and abrupt, but what I saw is someone that
cared enough to be upset when the machine wasn't running or something
was amiss. This type of passion is something we can deal with and I will
miss!
I know he loved to read. He talk to me when submitting his vacation
time..not at prime time, but when he could get 2 weeks in a row (usually
beginning of September when the sun was still shining), so he could sit
in his back yard, relax in a chair and read. Before his vacation I would
bring him books that I had recently finished to make sure he had the
most recent novels to dive into.
One thing that I will remember always, and have told the story many
times. I went on a Friday after work with a friend to the local pub,
Brews and Cues. Steve was at the bar having a beer. I was surprised to
see him, asked him if we could buy him a beer. He said no, he comes for
just a beer or 2 on Friday to make sure he rinses the taste of work out
of his mouth before the weekend. I thought this was brilliant. Only
Steve could come up with something like this.
My friends.. hold your loved ones close, be passionate about what you
do (at work too!) and at the end of the week know you have put your
heart into what you did and always remember to rinse the taste of work
out of our mouth before you head home for the weekend.
I KNOW WHAT I WILL BE DOING AFTER WORK THIS FRIDAY, Jan 11, 2019... I WILL GO TO OUR LOCAL PUB - BREWS & CUES in Lasalle, ORDER A BEER (& PROBABLY HAVE A TEAR), HOLD MY GLASS UP TO HAVE A CHEER TO OUR WORK BUDDY STEVE AND RINSE THE TASTE OF THIS WEEK OUT OF MY MOUTH BEFORE THE WEEKEND STARTS.  ANYONE AROUND AT 3:30 ARE WELCOME TO JOIN ME.   CHEERS TO STEVE, MAY HE BE AT PEACE.
