Egle Vittoria "Liliana" Rumiel

Peacefully on October 30 at the age of 92. Beloved wife to the late Angelo. Loving mother of Sergio, Walter (Marion) and Frank (Christella). Cherished Nonna to Lisa (Matt), Carl (Monica), Lauren (Nathan), Stephanie and Tiffany. Cherished Bisnonna to Ellie, Raymond, Lilly, Megan and Shameus. Dear daughter of the late Tranquillo and Assunta Del Rizzo. Dear sister of the late Ennio (Gloria deceased), Virginia, Dante (Marisa) and the late Elio (Gianina). Liliana will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

She was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a past member of the Fogular Furlan Club. Liliana was an active homemaker and an amazing cook, especially Italian! She was always the first to assist family and friends in any way she could.

I shared this to my Facebook feed, I figured I would share it here as well. Especially as I am on the West Coast and won't be able to attend her funeral.
Her name was Egle Rumiel, she hated her name, I always loved it. It was rare and weird and made her special. I tried one time to get her to see how cool it was by telling her how she was named after Egle Queen of the serpents from a Lithuanian folktale, and she waved me off saying "itsookaayy". Which was Nonna's trademark saying.
So much of her was passed on to me through dna. Same eyebrows, nose, and all skills related to fibre arts, cooking and gardening. She was baffled that I canned tomatoes and made sauce from scratch.
She could knit anything we asked even though she couldn't read the english patterns we chose. I loved her handwriting, I've saved most of the birthday cards over the years just to preserve her squiggly printing.
She always made my favourite foods, cherry torte, tortellini soup, lasagna. I've since hacked these recipe since she would never let me help her in the kitchen.
She was strong, kind and complicated, the sweetest lady.
I'll carry her with me always. RIP ❤️ Nonna

Dear Sergio, Walter, and Frank. Please accept my deepest condolences on your mother's passing. I have many memories of your mother's generosity. Whether she was helping me with a sewing project, cooking recipe, or just sharing life's lessons, she was particularly kind to me. I always viewed her as a loving mentor. I feel blessed and privileged to call her my "santola". Respectfully, Dores Candussi (and family)
