How smart was John?

We were around 16 years old and John along with some other friends were at my house. My dad ends up volunteering us to help rebuild our fence in the backyard next to the pool which is not uncommon of him to do. As you all know John for being the joking kind of guy, he starts to be a major distraction during this work. John is obviously making the job much more tolerable and we are all having the best laughs ever. After an hour of work we really don't want to do, John is holding a board for my dad to level and secure and John is constantly adjusting the level just before it can be secured. My dad hit his limit with him and said "John, I think I hear your mother calling you". John lived 10 blocks away at the time but my dad sent him home and we all remained there for the rest of the day working.
