To the Penfold Family: Just wanting to send my condolences to you at this time, but know that Joyce was a special person for me. I work at the SPH and when she first came there I was in the kitchen and trying to do things just the way SHE liked. Then I went to housekeeping but that didn't stop me from going to see her, I would pop in for just a minute but those minutes were very special to me. She will always be remembered in my heart. I am a volunteer (personal visiting) at the Sun Parlour Home and I have visited Joyce almost every week since she first arrived. We spent many enjoyable times discussing life, family, art, literature, poetry (her own works included) and especially food and cooking. I have yet to try her recipe for poached sole. She was most proud of her family and loved you all deeply. Her favourite pets and beloved husband were often spoken about. She was one of a very few who know the poem "Abou Ben Adam" by heart and we recited it often. Especially fond of the St Francis' prayer, she and I would say it together. (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace....)My life was certainly enriched by my friendship with Joyce and I will miss her. I hope these memories will console you in this difficult time.
