Olga Smith

Olga Smith passed away peacefully in Windsor on November 7, 2018, in her 92nd year. Our remarkable mom/grandmother/great grandmother spent her final days in comfort surrounded by her large loving family. She will be deeply missed by her eleven children and their spouses, Mary-Lynn Johnston (Lyall) of Toronto, Michele (Micki) Smith (Paul French) of Toronto, Dr Thomas M. Smith (Jennifer) of Sechelt B.C., Christopher (Karen) Smith of California, Dr Mark T.Smith (Cathie) of London, Dr Patrick X. Smith (Shannon) of Windsor, Charles M. Smith (Brenda) of Windsor, Roberta Lori (Phil) of Perth Australia, Geri Kubicki (Dr Ted) of Virginia Beach, Michael A. Smith (Kate Wootton) of Toronto, and D. Daniel Smith of Windsor.

Treasured grandmother of Matthew (Nicole) and Chris Johnston, Laura French (Damir Dragicevic) and Michael French, Thomas and Emily Smith, Corey and Sarah Smith, Jordan, Geoffrey, Luke and Sophie Smith, Patrick and Taylor Smith, Charles A. (Laurene) Smith and Jenna Smith, Christina Godfrey (Tom), Andrea Kierath (Tom), Erika, Michael and Mark Lori, Danielle, Katie, Amanda and Natalie Kubicki, Jack and Nick Wootton-Smith. Great-grandmother of Hunter, Carter, Emma, Niko, Adrian Paul, Sadie, Isla, Henry, Alexander, James, Charles and Ellie. Predeceased by her husband Admiral (R) Thomas A. M. Smith, CMM CD, her parents Michael and Sophia Seradoka and brother Boris. Loving sister of Mary Vasiloff.

Born on February 17, 1927, she was raised in Leamington and attended teacher’s college at the University of Western Ontario. Smart, athletic and beautiful, she taught school only briefly before her child-bearing years, after which she devoted her life to the well-being of her children and grandchildren, each of whom she “loved equally”. She could not be coaxed to name a “favourite”, despite the good-natured efforts of many to be so named.

Mom was a lady of kindness, character, integrity, and generosity of spirit, who went above and beyond as a mother and grandmother. We knew she would do anything for us, and she made certain we knew we were loved. She impressed upon us the importance of higher education and humility and encouraged us to be our best selves. She will be forever loved and remembered.

The family wishes to thank Dr. R Gibb for years of great care, Dr. M. Chevalier for exceptional, compassionate hospital care, and Amy’s Helping Hands and Carrie Isaacs for outstanding in-home care.
