A Life Long Friend

On March 2nd I lost a dear friend of 65 years, “Murf” left us all suddenly that day bringing great sadness to his family, and vast number of friends and acquaintances.  The news of his passing weighed heavily on me, and I couldn’t help but think of the length of time we’ve know each other and the life we had together. From the time I met him at the age of about 5, the next 18 years of our life were spent in constant contact building a lasting friendship, we were joined very early by two great friends, Ann Margaret, and Tim, and together the 4 of us had a childhood that a Hollywood script writer couldn’t capture, we ruled the world and enjoyed each other’s company immensely as true friends during those halcyon days of the late 50’s & 60’s learning of life as we grew up together.

Knowing someone for 65 years isn’t uncommon, remaining good friends with them for that length is rare. While time and distance, reduced greatly our constant contact over the last 45 years, it didn’t affect the friendship, on every occasion we had to meet, a beat was never skipped, we were back together in time, friends again with no awkward pauses or lulls in conversation, and when the 4 of us were together we once again ruled the world and often had to pause to catch our breath from laughter.

I will truly miss “MURF” just knowing he was there was always comforting. My condolences to you Rosemary and your children & grandchildren,  I can feel the sadness you must all have as I’m certain he was as good a partner, father & grandfather, as he was a friend to so many of us.

The Roseland Rats will ride again “Murf” Rest in Peace,  we will all meet again.
